Strain Highlight: Cake Strains

Hey folks! Welcome back to another exciting segment of strain highlight, where we talk about the stats and origins of some of your favorite cannabis strains! Normally, we zero in on one strain but this week, in honor of International Cake Day which takes place on November 26th, we’re going to be broadening our scope to take a look at Cake strains in general. So, strap in, grab a plate and enjoy this slice of cannabis knowledge.

Ugh Here Come the Puns

Don’t act like you don’t enjoy them. It’s important to clarify that there is a strain simply called Cake but we’re not looking at it specifically, its varieties are far more interesting and readily available. Anyway, there are a large variety of cake strains out there, with each one sharing some defining genetic traits that differentiate them from the rest of the electric lettuce out there. The very name “Cake” when it’s applied to these strain varieties is in reference not only to the dense white clustering of trichomes that give the bud a cake-y appearance, but also due to the complicated terpenes and flavonoids present which produce a bouquet of citrus with hints of vanilla. Also, it gets you baked. Like a cake. You get it.

The original cake strain breeder is, much like most of the cannabis strains out there, virtually impossible to nail down. There are tons of claimants to the frosty crown, but no one can really prove that they were the first to breed a strain that contained all of the cake qualities we’ve come to expect from strains like Lava Cake or LA Kush Cake.

Stats

Cake strains mostly tend to be indica hybrids which feature a high THC potential and a host of awesome terpenes like Caryophyllene and Limonene that make the high cerebral and relaxing so you can have your cake and eat it too. Beyond those general characteristics, the cake varieties out there all bring something else to the table, with some of them leaning more to the sativa side than indica like the ever-popular Jungle Cake. The cake varieties are endless, with new ones popping up all the time as more and more growers get their eager mitts on this frosted confection of a plant.

If you’re wondering to yourself, “Brynn, how do I know which cake variety is best for me?” well, the answer as always comes down to finding a budtender you can trust to guide you in the direction you want to go, like a weed sherpa. Next time you’re out and about shopping for weed tell your budtender what you’re looking to get out of your cannabis experience; I promise that a seasoned tender of bud will be able to help you find the strain that will do the trick.

That about wraps up my little breakdown about the various cake strains that are out there making our world a sweeter place. Make sure to check them out if you have a chance, you won’t regret it! Stay frosty cool cats!
