Spreading the Love: Canada and Cannabis Exports

Hey folks! Welcome back to another blog post where I will passionately attempt to make you as obsessed with cannabis as we are. This week, we’re going to be looking at how our happy little corner of the planet is helping other parts of the world enjoy the myriad benefits of cannabis: be that through setting precedents and breaking down barriers through legalization or by literally shipping our ganja overseas. So, let’s take a look at how Canada is helping to make the world a “greener” place.

Crushing Stigmas

People the world over are paying very close attention to Canada ever since we legalized and started regulating marijuana sales. The narrative for a long time was that putting cannabis in the hands of people would lead to a heavy social impact that would cost countries millions of dollars and lead to health issues. Well, we’re over five years into regulation and the world has noticed the lack of social harm as well as the benefits that cannabis regulation can yield economically and many of them are interested. In the European Union, several countries have begun to take steps towards legalization and regulation for retail sale of cannabis based on the success they’ve seen here and in parts of the USA, with a few actually going the distance and already passing bills to legalize the electric lettuce!

Now, many of the countries who are starting to get the ball rolling on legalization don’t have the infrastructure or the laws worked out to begin growing their own weed in country. That’s where we come in.

Sending Weed to the Four Corners of the Earth!

What do Australia, Germany, Israel and Argentina all have in common? They all import an absolute ton of cannabis from us. These countries are the top four importers of Canadian weed, and they love us for it. Australia is currently in the process of trying to move recreational cannabis in to legal territory, Germany has just legalized cannabis for personal use (making them only the third EU nation to do so along with Malta and Luxembourg), Israel has long been at the forefront of cannabis research and has recently made cannabis legal for personal use and Argentina imports cannabis from us for medical use (though they’ve recently signed bills into existence moving forward with personal use legality).

Canada has, in the 2023-24 fiscal year alone, imported an eye watering $218 million Canadian dollars worth of our finest green to foreign shores. That’s a massive increase of about 36% This is great not only for our economy but also for our reputation as a progressive nation that grows some of the best weed in the whole wide world and isn’t afraid to spread the love around.

Cannabis has a lot of great properties (as you’re all aware I’m sure), which we as a nation are starting to wield in a positive way to benefit our lives and our wellbeing. We’ve got to get the rest of the world on board and exporting our amazing ganja is the best way to do it! So, lets keep supporting our nations growers and keep getting that weed out there into the world!
